The Attendance Allowance is money for people of pensionable age who have care needs
because of a physical or mental disability. Currently, there are two rates: Lower Rate is
£61.85, and the Higher Rate is £92.40. Income Tax does not have to be paid on this Benefit.
The latest figures (August 2022) show that 58% of claims for this funding are rejected. One
of the reasons given is that many forms are completed by individuals or families who do not
mention or do not clearly state about how their illness or disability affects their daily lives.
Age UK and The Citizen's advice bureau can offer help and advice on completing the form.
Processing the form to a decision on eligibility usually takes about 4-6 weeks.
