In 1980, this was the weekly wage offered to the first Live-in Care Workers introduced by Able Domestic Employment Agency, now Able Community Care.
The client, an older, frail, retired army gentleman, needed support as his housekeeper, 83 years of age, also wanted to retire. He had never made a meal or a sandwich in his lifetime, hence his perceived need.
We supported this gentleman for many years. His details were written in a school-type exercise book, and details of his care workers were sent to him in a handwritten letter.
Forty-three years later, though no longer using exercise books or handwriting correspondence, we are still offering the same personalised care support that has enabled thousands of older people to remain in their own homes.
